Visit vote.gov to begin the voter registration process. Select your state or territory, and you’ll find instructions based on its rules for registering:

- In person at your local election office

Other Ways to Register to Vote
You can also register to vote in the United States through other methods:
- Download the National Mail Voter Registration Form, fill it out onscreen, or print the blank form and complete it by hand. Don’t forget to sign the form before mailing it to the address listed for your state.
- Check with local government offices to see if in-person registration is an option.
- Visit your state’s department of motor vehicles office.
- Find a nearby armed forces recruitment center.
- Contact state or county public assistance offices like SNAP or food stamp centers.
For Abroad and Military Voters
The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) enables you to register and request an absentee ballot if you are:
- A U.S. citizen living outside the United States
- A service member stationed abroad
- A spouse or eligible family member of a service member stationed abroad
What Documents Are Required to Register?
Generally, a driver’s license or state ID is necessary to register to vote in the United States. If you don’t have either, alternative documents, like a bank statement or utility bill, may be accepted. Document requirements differ by state, so be sure to check with your state’s election office for their guidelines.
